The Time is Now! Inter vs Bari

By: Eros Miranda | August 22nd, 2009

The time is here. Every drop of sweat that we shed in Serie B last year was in order to be able to live this moment again. Tomorrow we take on the so-called “Italian Champs”. Now I bet you that all the Inter fans are already sure about getting three points from the match tomorrow but I can tell them all right now that our eleven men who will step onto the field will fight for every ball and will not let Inter walk all over them, they have worked way too hard for that. Just like our captain Gillet stated “nothing is impossible in football.” I assure you that our great captain will do everything in his power to guarantee us atleast a draw. Ok, we know this match is going to be hard but we have Bari in our heart and us true Baresi will never let Bari be alone, this is why tomorrow we will be allowed to start dreaming again.

In order to give you a perspective from an inter fan, I contacted Johonna(blogger of the Inter offside) and asked her some questions about the match tomorrow:

Who do you think will be the difference maker for Inter?

This one is hard for me. In the past, it has always been Ibra but now that he is gone, we have a whole new team philosophy. Like you, I think our keeper Julio Cesar is our secret weapon. Even if the forwards cannot find the net, he can keep what would have been a loss to a respectable draw. I think Eto’o has a lot to prove and will be doing whatever he can to hit the back of the net. My only worry is that he will be trying too hard, if you know what I mean.

What do you believe are Bari’s chances agaisnt the Champions of Italy?

I wish I could say zilch, but I think it could be iffy for us. Dont get me wrong, I dont think Bari will beat us, but a draw is not out of the question. Teams come to Milan with nothing to lose – they always give their all. I often complain that we always get everyone’s best performance – it is the curse of being one of the big teams. What I love about football, though, is that any team can beat any other team. There is so much that can happen, so much that goes into a game, that the outcome is never guaranteed. Every team deserves respect no matter their place on the table. Right now, though, Bari has a bit of a lucky break as Cambiasso is out with injury. Missing him definitely throws a monkey wrench into our plans. Basically, now we have to rely on Vieira and you never know when he is going to completely lose his marbles. It makes me nervous just thinking about it.

What do you think of Ventura stating that his Bari side are going to embarrass Inter in the Guisseppe Meazza?

I think that is what they all say. Everyone comes to the San Siro to stick it to Inter and usually, they dont. Occasionally though, they manage to take a point or three and that is why I never say never. I think Bari will play the game that many teams do: play 9 behind the ball and try to capitalize on a break. Hopefully, Mourinho has been practicing that with the boys and we will know how to deal with it.

Prediction of the final score:

Yikes. I am far too superstitious to answer this! I hate to wuss out, but I am afraid that if I predict a win, I will be punished by the Calcio Gods for my hubris with a devastating loss. Similarly, if I predict a loss, I am afraid it will come true. Now I have to go light some candles and throw some salt or something. I just hope we play a good game without any errors and no one gets hurt. I know, I totally copped out of that question.

Once again thank you Johonna.

Probable lineups:

It seems like Ventura is going to go with a (4-4-2). Gillet; Masiello, Ranocchia, Stellini, Parisi; Alvarez, De Vezze, Gazzi, Koman; Sforzini, Kutuzov

The team is still missing some depth but I think Gillet, Ranocchia and Kutuzov will have a great outing tomorrow.

Ragazzi let us not be scared to be what we used to be. Lets not be scared to make history and make our move to Serie A permanent because now that we’re here there is no one who can take us back down. Our eleven men will go down there tomorrow but they will represent all of us, all of Bari. And Inter fans you’re going to get to really know Bari tomorrow but don’t forget that we will be anxiously waiting for you in the San Nicola.

Yesterday made me believe survival is a definite possibility for Bari this season, this summer left me feeling pretty negative. Too bad the team didn’t grab Ranocchia or Barretto on co-ownership at least.

Alessio, one game does not a season make, but yes, I too believe strongly that Bari will survive this season. Hopefully the January transfer will include Mr Barton spending some of that good ol Texas cash on some reinforcements.

Well I guess by that I meant if we can draw Inter at the San Siro, we should be able to play anyone.

Exactly, I’m hoping this result will buoy the team throughout the season. I think they proved a lot of people wrong (despite what they may tell you) and will ride the wave of confidence.

it will only get better when gunners like Baretto and Maggiorini, and a schemer like Almiron join the fray

I love it when you little teams and your fans get all excited when you get a result against a team like us. You get all emotional and dramatic as if you had actually won a trophy or something. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! How touching!!! As I will say time and time again it is the result that wins you the match not how you play in the game. And results win you trophies not “pretty football” otherwise arsenal would have the most trophies in the world. And how dare you call us the “so called” italian champions. Oh Im sorry but where the FUCK were you last season Bari? While we were owning everyone in Serie A you were sucking balls in Serie B. Did you have fun with that? There was no team who was better then us last year and the fact that we didnt even have to play in top gear most of the time to win the matches and to win the scudetto shows how badly the other teams were lagging behind us. And dont bring up the ref decisions cuz every team in every match in Serie A has at least one controversial decision and somehow people only notice the ref’s bad decisions when its inter. If you think that inter were getting favored then perhaps you should see how many times teams like fiorentina, roma, milan, juventus, lazio, udinese, genoa, sampdoria, atalanta, and the rest of Serie A had unfair ref calls go their way. This argument over the refs favoring people is fucking pointless because in italy whenever a team gets a call against them they say that the other team was paying the ref. Its just utter horse shit. We deserved all of the scudettos even the one from 05 06 and we deserved that won because we seemed to be the only team capable of winning games without cheating like fiorentina, lazio, juve, and milan did. If there is any supposed “proof” that we robbed any scudetti then I can guarantee you that I can quash your pathetic accusation with real evidence to support my statements.

Perhaps inter would be more respected if we didnt have every other single fan in (with the exception of lazio) out to get us.

Mickey, where exactly is this rant coming from?? It must have been weighing on you to write it in the middle of the night, lol. I would address all of your points, but it would a complete waste of my time. The fact you are not letting Bari fans enjoy a solid result shows the kind of soccer fan you are

I for one feel that Inter deserved all of their recent championships, to me that is not even up for debate. They clearly have been the best team in Italy for the past few years. But the fact remains, they will never be in the same sentence as the great Toro teams of the 40s, Juve teams of the 80s and 90s,and Milan teams of the late 80s to mid 90s. Why?? Im not sure, but I think arrogance from top to bottom may have something to do with it.

    FORZA GALLETTI!!!!!

Ok everybody, stop your love for Bari and hop on the bandwagon driven by that glory hunter named Mickey..That was the most pathetic rant I have ever read..Dude, you’re a pussy

A draw against the scudetto winners at the San Siro? Yeah that is pretty cool for a newly promoted club.. Since you are a fan of the big bad club, why does it bother you so much? It’s just Bari afterall

Don’t let these fake fans deter you, they are about as italian as Inter itself.

Good luck this season. Forza Palermo

Yeah KJ, some of these Inter guys definitely have some insecurity issues. The funny thing is, all this started from nothing, and I have yet to say anything bad about Inter. I actually LIKE Inter.

What can you do, you cant rationalize with ignorant people.

The Islanders are looking good, led by the lil Pugliese Miccoli, I wish them nothing but success, and if a Southern based team not named Bari wins the Scudetto in the future, I hope it is the the Rosanero

As long as it’s not Lecce or Napoli…

Yago wearing #6? Kinda an unconventional number for him, but I’m excited to see him at Bari. I can only hope Ventura will give him the time of day to prove himself.

Ragazzi I’m really sorry that I haven’t been writing as much lately. I’ve been very busy getting all my classes straight since they made a mess of my schedule. Btw Mickey, grow up. They had to send Juve to the serie b for you guys to start winning again. Inter have never had a rich history. And don’t come here insulting the Baresi for standing behind our team after a very good result. All were doing is praising the good in our game and stating that we have to put our feet on the ground and move on to next week but yet you inter fans keep coming back. I know it must be hard for you to accept it but yes you did tie us at home, with a penalty, and yet you have the dignity to say that we are shit and that we are no one. Well then buddy I guess the “so called” champs are shit too cause they tied us. So go to your blog, be depressed there and move on with life. ANYWAY, the iago post will be up soon.

    But for now Forza Galletti!

ure full of crap mike you know that? Arent you forgetting a certain inter team which was to my recollection one of the greatest teams ever. Dont you remember “La Grande Inter” of the 60’s the inter of helennio herrera, of sandro mazzola, of giacinto facchetti, of angelo moratti??? The team that won two champions league trophies back to back and won countless other trophies. That was the greatest inter team ever and you probably never even heard of them because the last time they won the CL was in the 60’s. But regardless of that fact this team will win the CL one day again and when they do I will go on every single fucking blog, I will write to every single inter hater who doubted us and said we’d never win the champions league I will go up to all of them and say “TAKE YOUR INTER HATE AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ARROGANT LITTLE ASSES BECAUSE WE ARE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS AND AFTER ALL THE SHIT YOU GAVE US ABOUT THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WE ARE NOW UNDISPUTED KINGS OF EUROPE AND DONT YOU EVER FORGET THAT” I will remember all of those comments, all of those videos, all of those stupid rants about how inter will never win the champions league. Oh yes cuz when the day comes you will not here the end of my wrath!!

Mickey. Simply put, you are a fool.

Since I was born in 1977,I do not remember la Grande Inter, but I do know of their exploits, and I agree, they were a great team. That is not up for debate. (Mazzola was amazing, if not a half notch below Rivera. But thats a debate for another day)

Like I have stated numerous times, I AM AN INTER FAN!!!, so I dont know where you are coming up with all this rhetoric of me hating the Nerazzurri.

Also, Im not sure what bizarro football universe you live in, but last time I checked, Barcelona were European Champion. Inter needs to concentrate on getting past the round of 16 (and I say not as a smart ass, but as an F-A-N) before they can even be considered contenders.

Seems the class of Inter (and some of their tifosi) left when the great Captain, Facchetti passed away. Now that guy right there was the definition of a champion. Maybe you could take a page from his book, but I doubt you will

sorry mike this whole time I was convinced you were either a juve fan or a bari fan. Not that I have anything against Bari its just that I am not sold on you guys quite yet. True you got a deserved result against us and I commend you for your feat but drawing with us will not keep you in Serie A alone. More importantly it will be the matches you win against your fellow “survivor” teams that will keep you from going back to serie B. As we learned from Bologna you have to win against the bottom 10 teams in order to stay up. Not to mention the fact that you gotta have a bit of luck and real balls like they did cuz I thought they were going down. To be honest I would rather have a southern team stay in Serie A then have a boring team like Bologna stay here. I was sad when lecce got relegated please learn from their mistakes and try to stay in Serie A this year. Think of Genoa and Napoli as your examples for how teams came up from Serie B and then went on to be relatively successful in Serie A. Although it will be difficult without Guberti, what a shame he was a real talent.

No worries Mickey. I am an Interista, no question, but when all four of your nonni (and dad)are from suburbs of Bari, well, you just cant go against that. All you Interista must know that you have my full support going forward (except for the return match in Bari) and hopefully this year we (inter) can finally reclaim the Champions League trophy

I agree one game does not a season make, but I have high hopes for the lads, and that they will thrive this year. We brought in Iago, and now hopefully Donati from Celtic (he scored a beauty today) and Andreolli from Roma to add depth. With the return of Bareto and Meggiorini this week, I feel a positive result in is the cards. I also agree that winning the games against the “bottom feeder” is a must to ensure survival.

On the Inter side of things, it would amazing to il Pibbe di Bari Vecchia (Cassano) sign there, but perhaps that is a pipe dream. Hopefully Schmujko Schneijder signs there, puts himself in the right frame of mind and has a lights out season

Thought you guys might be interested: Gillet has been called up for the Belgian team for the first time. It’s still a pre-selection, as 8 more players have to be cut.

But I’d love having him in the squad. He’s not better than Logan Bailly, but he’s being ignored by the coach.

    http://www.asbari.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2205&Itemid=68

For those you can’t read Italian, simply, Celtic accepted the deal, Donati at Bari for 4 years, and he’ll be in Bari probably Monday. A full bio of him is on the Bari press release.

Bravo! Supposedly the team got him for wicked cheap too, 1.5mil is the rumored transfer fee. He’ll be a very important player this season I think.
