Our Year!
By: Eros Miranda | August 10th, 2009
So after a nearly perfect Serie B championship we have hit a small bump. Along the way something has gone wrong and our beloved general and leader “Antonio Conte” has called it quits. The official statement from the club read: “AS Bari and Mr. Antonio Conte have decided consensually today not to continue their working relationship.” Our star winger Stefano Guberti also left, moving on to Roma but with our opening match against Inter coming up there is no time to weep. Under the new guidance of Giampiero Ventura we can expect a decent season. He brings a lot of experience, having coached sides such as Napoli, Sampdoria, and Udinese. Ventura is not the only new face we will see next season as we have bought a whole host of players. Well, it’s easier if I show you. (See below lads)

Yes, that’s right 15 signings! Some are renewed co-ownerships and loans but at least we’re good for one season away from Serie B. The future is not vague at all and with a few more details to be sorted out we should have a bright season.
Lets go and conquer the Serie A!
Per Sempre Bari

Benvenuto! I am thrilled to see this page up here, I saw it on the main Offside page though it seems it hasn’t been attached to the Serie A page yet. You mind telling us a bit about yourself, Eros? How did you become a Bari fan?
I’m a Juventino but I’ve always been a big fan of Bari, my Dad’s from there and i miei nonni still there. I think Ventura is an “ok” coach but Conte much better, maybe the Texan consortium will bring them back? (Can’t believe Bari is getting bought by Texans!)
What do you think of the mercato? I think Gillet is going to have a busy year…

Grazie Alessio! My love for Bari came from my grandparents also. They were both born there and used to tell me stories about AS Bari all the time when I was a child. Even though Bari is my number one team I have also supported Juventus. By the way congratulations on the fantastic transfer campaign (well except the zanetti sell, it was a shocker for me). Later I’ll have a post up with all the information and my thoughts on Bari being bought by Texans and a deeper look at our new coach. Thank you again Alessio and I’m looking foward to working with all the fantastic bloggers at theoffside

Awesome to hear you are a fellow Bari/Juve simpazzante. Have you ever been to Bari? I was there this Spring to visit family, bought a Bari centenario jersey when I was there, it is class. Last year was just too beautiful, between Bari winning Serie B and Lecce merda tanking back down!

Here’s a post I did about 3 months ago about Bari and Conte.

I’ve been to Puglia and it was truly beautiful, especially I Trulli di Alberobello. I cannot describe how ecstatic I was last year with Bari taking the Serie B by storm and claiming our rightful place in the Serie A. Your article about Conte was great! To this day I still tell my brother that Conte was the right man for Juventus and I believe that he is the next Capello. Still Ferrara deserves an opportunity and has done great so far. I heard Zenit is interested in Conte, do you think it is a good choice for his future? Anyways, it is truly great to have a fellow Barese in theoffside.

So, I have a silly question: Why the chicken on the crest?

Finally someone asked that…

That’s a good question, I have no idea. I’ll ask my dad when he gets home.

So I have been doing some reading, and a few Italian sites claim that the Rooster is the emblem of the city, due to its strenth and the fact that it protects its home. Sounds reasonable, but who the hell knows. Time to get in touch w/ the ultras to get the real answer…. and for the record its not a chicken, its a rooster (Gallo)

Hmm. See, I think Bari and I think Greek, orecchiette, the sea…
I see the rooster and I think Kelloggs corn flakes. It is sort of uncanny how similar they are while being completely unrelated and totally independent.
