HEARTBREAK AT SAN NICOLA!

By: Eros Miranda | August 15th, 2009

I cannot believe what has just happened. Our dream has collapsed before it even started and I have no words to describe how depressed I am by this. The coppa italia could have been an opportunity for Bari to grow and with a big of luck and hard work we could have gone far. But there is nothing left to do now but pick ourselfs up and try to prepare both physically and mentally in time for the upcoming match against INTER. After a boring close match in which both sides defended their goals well and lacked magic in the attack, it was a tale of penalties. Towards the end of the match Empoli scored first with a penalty kick by Lodi, but 5 minutes after, Bari equalised with another penalty by Greco. The match was then carried on to extra-time. With just minutes into extra-time you could tell that both sides were tired and no surprises were to occur. To the dreaded rigori we went. Everything looked good as we replied to every penalty from Empoli who didn’t seem like they would miss from the spot. And then came MASIELLO. His error from the spot cost us not just a win but a dream. What hurts the most is that it was in our stamdium, infront of thousand of Bari fans. Right now I can’t comment anymore, but I think this lose was a huge hit for the society and the fans of our beloved Bari. I’ll try to have a full match recap tomorrow.

For now enjoy this video and imagine our stadium like that against the likes of Inter,Roma,Milan, ect.
Try to focus on the stadium and our fans instead of the ass in the corner of the video. (If you can’t then it’s ok, It was a bit hard for me too)

Per Sempre Bari

Grande tifosi, tanti tifosi in Serie B!!

I’m not too upset about the Coppa exit, honestly, the only thing for Bari is to avoid relegation. The mercato is far from satisfying and a Coppa run might have cost the team points.

Funny that your biggest crying fan likes Ohio State more than Bari.

You should be happy you went out. As Ale said, going through in the Coppa would cost you guys a lot of points, points you will really need.

Yea this could be a vital elimination in order to concentrate fully on salvation in Serie A, but it always hearts to get eliminated from a cup in our first game and I could never find myself not wanting my team to win. All I can do is see the positives after the match which is more concentration on salvation. We have to remember that the coppa italia is also a chance for all our youngsters which we will be more careful to use in the league. And haha Al good job pointing that out, I couldn’t find any pictures of Bari fans crying, I guess there usually used to winning. :)

It’s always painful to get eliminated from the cup, especially to a Serie B team on penalties, a cup run that could have provided some hope in a season otherwise that will be nerve-wracking, but I still do think it’s for the better. I have to say I’m not that big a fan of Ventura and I really wish the Texans had brought Conte back.

What do you think of the mercato? I don’t think the team is complete at all.

I think that not keeping Conte was a huge blow. His 4-2-4 formation was remarkable and with him Bari could have continued to grow a lot. Ventura isn’t impressing me at all and right after getting beat by Empoli he stated that Bari will embarrass Inter on sunday (I like his optimism but now is not the time to talk about embarrassing the current champs). About the mercato, I’m dissapointed. I thought that with the arrival of foreign owner we would see new faces but nothing has developed. Instead, we have just been linked with a great host of players and nothing has come of it. The only positives are the arrivals of Matteo Paro and keeping Andrea Ranocchia on loan in a season that could be his breakout season.

Michele, Conte had signed a contract extansion just weeks after being prometed to the serie A but then out of nowhere he left Bari. He said that he wanted to play in Serie A with his ideas. Apparently the club didn’t support his project anymore, probably because of the sacrifices that they would have to make. If it would have been under the new ownership Conte would have probably stayed. Conte stated that Bari deserved an ambitious project and when the club had no trust in his project anymore he decided to mutually cancel his contract. It’s shocking though because Bari had just been promoted after taking the Serie B by storm.

I can see where Conte was coming from, he’s ambitious and frankly the Mattarese’s just couldn’t/wouldn’t support his plans. He wasn’t asking for Sheik money or anything, just a decent war chest to fund a mercato with.

he only positives are the arrivals of Matteo Paro and keeping Andrea Ranocchia on loan in a season that could be his breakout season.

Barreto, too. He’s going to be important and I wish we had nabbed him on co-ownership. Team has to do more than loan players though, because if they tear it up this season, Bari gets zero out of it alla Guberti.

Matteo Paro is injured for a long time though I thought. He had ACL injuries on his right-knee (had left last season, oh boy)

And yes, Ventura needs to stfu. Inter at the San Siro? Now is not the time to be talking loudly…

That video gave me chills!! Well done, Eros. And well done for stepping up and blogging for Bari fans everywhere.

I am not too disappointed with our Coppa exit, although a win would have provided positive momentum for next week. Our squad is not deep enough as it stands, and as Ale stated, the distraction of Coppa games would not help our chances in the Campionato

Hopefully, this will be a successful year for us,and we not only survive, but thrive. And next year, our American owners will will open the vault doors and bring in some big time talent. There’s no reason a city the size of Bari shouldn’t be a major player in Italian football!

    Forza Galetti!!

Thank you mike, it’s an honor for me to be writing about the great AS BARI and I too hope to enjoy a very successful season for bari. I think we should play it save and just focus on getting out of the bottom half of the table so we have an early survival and can start planning for dominance next season. And your right, hopefully our American owners will use their cash to make us a major power in Serie A. Who knows, maybe in a couple of years we can thrive towards objectives as uefa cup classification and place our mark in europe.

Well said Eros. I am looking for survival and the development on oung players this year (I wish Rannochia and Bareto were ours) and purchases and Europa Cup qualification trhereafter.

My parents just arrived in Bari, so hopefully they will provide some firsthand insight into the mood and happenings of the club. I told my dad that he better be at the home opener against Bologna or else

Looks like you got your wish, Eros. We’ve loaned you lot Iago. Take good care of him for us.

Personally, I don’t see Bari staying up (sorry to be a downer), but I do want to see Bari survive. It’s been too long without Bari in the ‘A’.

All the best on the season, and do the world a favour and beat the merda on Sunday!

Nnahoj, you’ll see that this was a great loan move. When we loan you back Iago falque his going to be known as a starlet around Europe, I’m sure. Also, he’s going to mature and be ready take on a bigger challenge with Juve next year. With him we have an even greater chance to survive, I really believe that he is going to be one of the biggest surprises of the championship. We’ll try to beat INTER for both Bari and Juve. Mike, hopefully with the arrival of the new president we can make the deals for Barreto and Ranocchia permanent at the end of the season. And tell you Dad that he HAS to go. It’s going to be a huge match at home, and being there there is no way he can miss it.

I would love to get Bareto and Ranocchia permanently, absolutely LOVE IT, but I dont see Udinese and Genoa going along with that. I dont know much about Iago, but if he is coming up through Juve’s system, he must be something special.

If my dad doesnt go to the game, Im sure my cousin, sister and mom will. I was on the Peninsula in April and May and am now kicking myself for not going to Bari and seeing the birthplace of my dad and grandparents (100% Barese here!!) but at least I was in Italy when they clinched the Serie B title.

I’ll have a post up soon about Iago, trust me when I say this, in the future he will be in the same league as the likes of Diego,Fabregas, ect. My grandparents are Barese too, and I’ve been to Bari but never got the chance to go to a game, I really hope to go to Bari this year just to watch bari play because we have some of the greatest fans in italy, and let’s not forget how highly thought of our stadio San Nicola is. Let me know if your family goes, I would love to hear what the atmosphere is like in our home opener.
