Bringing Pain To The Break

By: Eros Miranda | October 10th, 2009

So as most of you know there will be no Serie A this weekend due to the international break. But the pain I’m talking about isn’t that of the break, I’m talking about Barton turning around and taking our hopes and dreams back with him to Texas. Ok, I understand that Bari are still doing great and that our talent and heart outweighs a multi-millionare president. So yes, Bari don’t need Barton but this was the man behind our dream. Barton promised us great players, a bright future and he even brought hope to the Bari fans that someday we would see CASSANO back in a Bari jersey. The problem apparently was that Barton thought he was going to take out 15 million euros to buy the time but Bari asked for more than 25 million.

In a way I think we got carried away, but when you see Barton come out of the airport with a Bari scarf promising a lot of achievements and giving us permission to dream about the birghtest of futures, you will feel betrayed. The best thing we can do is put this issue behind us and let our results fade Barton away.

What Mattarese is practically saying in this video is that He doesn’t understand what happened, that at first Barton was so enthutiastic but then he stopped.

I say we should now stand behind Vincenzo Matarrese and support his decision, as our true presidente would never turn his back on us like Barton did.

Per Sempre Bari

Eh, fuck Barton, but that doesn’t make the Mattarese’s any better. I hope Barton’s plane gets somehow delayed for a long time by the Bari ATC…

    Eros and Ale,

My parents arrive here in Van after 2 months (mostly) of being in Bari

I will get a full report from my pop tomorrow, but from what I’ve heard, it seems like buying our club was second to exploiting and profitting from the resources of Puglia

Anyways, fire crotch is gone, hopefully we get an owner who 1. Cares and 2. Had the deep pockets and willingness to make us a threat not only in Italy but in Europe too ( if your gonna dream, why not dream big!)

Hey guys, just curious, where in Bari are your families from?

Yeah, there’s been stories that this was a whole publicity stunt to promote his biofuels company in Puglia or some shit. Isn’t his company all about holding “luxury items?” Makes no sense to me, but fuck him.

Awesome. Do your parents go to Bari frequently? My family usually goes every 4-5 years for a few weeks.

My grandpa is actually from a little village outside Foggia, but his family moved to Bari when he was young for work. He worked in shipping industry in Bari his whole life. My grandma (on my Dad’s side) is from the same town as Legrottaglie actually, Gioia del Colle, about 30minutes south of Bari. How about you?

Mike let me know what he says, I would love to have an insight look from what people are saying in Bari on behalf of Barton’s betrayal. And what I feared the most happened. We were used for our resources and simply as a step towards furthering his american success into europe. And Ale, while both Barton and Mattarese are incompetent, I’m glad our presidente stopped Barton from using us. I trust our teams skills and heart to take us foward. If an investor or new owner comes then be it, but for now we can see the important thing, our players. Oh and Mike my family is straight out of Bari Citta. Looking at the picture again, that could deffinately be RICK ASTLEY haha.

    |I agree. Screw Tim Barton!

All my nonni are Barese. On my dad’s side, my gramps is from Grumo Appula (home of Nicola Ventola) where my dad was also born and lived for the first 6 years of his life, and my grandma is from Sannicandro di Bari. My mom’s family is from Valenzano.

I’ve yet to see the pics and videos, but as soon as I am able, I will email pictures and videos from the San Nicola for posting on this blog. My dad said the stadium is really unique and although nowhere close to being full, extremely loud. (we all know us Barese are loud by nature, right?) He was telling me about il Capitano Gillet’s pregame ritual, and how much he is loved by the fans in the Curva Sud.

You guys are based back East right now I am assuming? Im just wondering what the pulse for calcio, and all things Italian is where you guys are. Myself, being from a multicultural city like Vancouver, there’s a strong, and quite large Italian community here. Maybe not like Toronto, NYC or Boston, but large nontheless. And come World Cup time, every Italian is a soccer fanatic, lol

My grandpa is only a Bari fan, but I think of the bigs he prefers Juve over the other two. My dad is like me- Juve is our primo amore, but we’re pretty big fans of Bari. Mia nonna couldn’t give a damn.

Mike, originally I’m from Rochester in Upstate NY, which has a large Italian population, I actually met two brothers last summer in their 30s who moved from Potenza. But Calcio-wise, it’s not surprisingly lacking. Toronto is kickass though, only 2-3hours away for me, large Italian population and a good amount of Calcio fans. But I go to college in New Orleans, which in the past had a large Italian population but it’s pretty much gone now, only traces of the culture like some of the food.

Rochester, eh? Western NY, at least your close to TO, which I believe has the largest Italian population outside of Italy. But the problem with going to Toronto is the fact that, you are going to Tornto, lol. (sorry West Coast inferiority complex again) Being from Rochester, you are right in the heart of Bills/Sabres/Amerks country there, I would figure calcio would right off the radar.

Must be cool going to school in the Big Easy. Are you at Tulane or UNO?

As far as my family goes, I dont think any of my nonni were big soccer fans, but my one Grandpa, when he was alive, would still get very upset about il Grande Torino and the Superga tragedy. I think it gets forgotten how badly that shook calcio to its foundations. My dad played at a high level until he was about 20, but wasnt a huge fan of Serie A until a couple years ago, and he is a Milanista for some reason.

Bari with a huge away win over Chievo!! Chievo is in very good form but the team took it to them. I missed the game, but I’ll post highlights as soon as I find them.

Mike, Toronto is indeed quite cool and I go there pretty much every break to hang out, a fun city. I’m a Sabres fan, but Amerks and Bills suck…….ugh. I’m at Tulane down here.

Also Conte+Atalanta had a great away win, 3-1 against Udinese. He’s really helped to turn Atalanta around since they faced Bari.

Awesome win. Two beautifully taken, headed goals by la Brujita Jr and Wonder Boy. Things are looking rosy for il Galletti. Hopefully we can take care of Lazio next week.

Im not sure if you guys get RAI International down there, but Coach V (its my hockey background; everyone gets a nickname) was the featured guest on La Domenica Sportiva, which is pretty cool. It seems the pundits and papers have noticed the positive things AS Bari have contributed this year. Now if only Barreto rolls into form we should be golden.

    Eros, dove sta?
