A Learning Experience
By: Vincenzo | September 24th, 2009
All wasn’t well at the San Nicola yesterday. Bari, despite a monster of an effort, gave up their unbeaten run in Serie A. Although we did lose, I would have liked to see what the end result would have been had Calvarese done his job and not made this offside call:
Ref-pointing aside, the first loss is now behind us and we can take this opportunity to look forward and build on the areas in which we showed weakness. Offensive production was lacking a great deal yesterday and I really think the problem was that the ball wasn’t getting to our strikers. Ventura must have noticed this, hence why he sacrificed his three substitutions to his midfield.
Ranocchia had a great game, despite the single lack of top-class football which resulted in the goal against. There’s no use in putting the blame on one guy as it was without a doubt a team loss. And only as a team can we look to the future. I’m convinced that this team has all the necessary ingredients to produce a fine football club: fans, history, passion, skill, culture, active ownership and most of all fans.
So the next step is to look ahead to Sunday’s matchup against Milan. Despite our little experience in Serie A thus far, we are talking a walk on familiar territory. Milan is coming off a disappointing, yet deserved, loss to Udinese and they are looking for the three points against Bari. What we need to do is show them that what happened against Inter was nothing close to beginner’s luck. In fact, yesterday’s loss was a learning experience for our lads and they have what it takes to keep playing their best football regardless of the result.
Prediction: Milan 1 – 1 Bari

I think you have a chance of picking up all three points our Milan.
They are a team in disarray, finding it hard to score, are very suseptible to the counter attack.
All I can say is I hope Milan can get a proper effort out of the players that we rely on and stay away from any big mistakes that can lead to goals.Posted from

I think the struggle with Milan is their lack of motivation. When you watch them play they seem like they don’t care (except against marseille), compared to GENOA, JUVE, INTER…they all play like warriors and fight till the last whistle. I believe Milan right now need someone like Don Capello who can get the best out of the squad. Galliani will probably not spend more than 15 million in January and Leonardo as much as he tries can’t get the best out of the certain players. Either way I’m going to say that Bari can’t doubt Milans quality even at this moment and it will be a hard-fought battle this weekend.

If we come at them without any fear, we can win. Their fullbacks are old and crap, Alvarez/Rivas can have a field day running at them.
Ranocchia is a stud, by the way. I figured there’d be some growing pains from Serie B to Serie A…but he’s shown nothing!

Agreed Ale. I think Alvarez is going to shred their backs all night.
Ranocchia is a stud and a half indeed. I’m going to enjoy his presence in red and white while I can.
Must be lots of Interistas thinking the sky is falling today. LOL.Posted from

Who is Bari’s number 90? He is pretty good.

our number 90 is Alvarez, amazing player, amazing speed..and johonna you must be really enjoying this weekend, inter lost but Juve tied and Bari are heading towards and away win at milan.

That’s Edgar Alvarez, a winger who is one of the fastest players in the world, though his final decisions sometimes have left to be desired. He briefly played with Roma.

Eros: dont count your chickens quite yet – there is still a good chunk of game left to play.
And no, I am pissed. Inter lost and our midfield is, once again, devoid of any creativity. Injuries suck!
I dont pay attention to what Juve does, it just gives me heartburn.
What I like about Alvarez is that he is leaving Milan’s midfield in the dust. But yes, Bari’s whole problem with this game is that the forwards have been going for the spectacular instead of the tap in (which would have bagged them a couple goals in the first half).
Also, Storari has been pretty good.

Bari looked very good but they were maddening when it came to actually shooting. Granted however, Marco Storari had a great game.

Rivas the Argentinian and Alvarez are really good!!!
Rivas will be playing for a big team in 2 to 3 years. He just has to work on his finishing. But Storari was great 2day!!!

Argh!!!!!!
I’m past the point, as a Baresi, of being proud of this team for gathering another precious point in a stadium where we aren’t supposed to be able to compete, let alone get a result. We shouldve won this game, period
Like we stated earlier, Milan had no answer for our wingers. We bossed the mdfield, and minus a few tense moments, our back line solid. Unfortunately, our finishing was a little off (and when we were on target, Storari was fantastic) but that’s ok, the finishing will come.
I am more than proud of our boys though. To see them play that way, against that team (as good as Bari were today, Milan were that bad, what a mess there) on their pitch leaves me full of confidence
Looking forward to another great effort next Saturday v Catania
Forza Galletti!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the team really needs to learn how to finish!! I’m proud to see they played without fear and they really took it to Milan, but the Galletti shoulda beaten them and shoulda beaten Inter. Add 4 points from those game, and 1 or 3 against Cagliari and Palermo from where we just couldn’t nail in a goal.

Man, we just cannot finish. Catania have don’t nothing in regards to offence and we haven’t made them pay. Very frustrating

Incredibly frustrating, Mike. Bari could have had full points against Inter, Milan, Cagliari (maybe), Palermo, and Bologna if someone could just put the goddamn ball in the net with consistency.

Alvarez has to put away that header, no excuse for that. You play in Serie A, you need to put sitters like that in the back of the net
I was happy with Meggiorini’s contribution today, though. He was lively in the 20 minutes and was unlucky not to open his account today. Our back line, though rarely stretched, looked solid as always. For my money we are watching something special with the 2 Massielo’s, Bonucci and SuperStud Rannicchia. With Gillet behind them, it’s no wonder we have only conceded 4 goals in 7 games
On a sour note, Barreto disappointed today. Hopefully he awakes from the semi malaise he seems to be going through lately. Though coming off an injury, I guess I can cut him a but of a break for now
With the National team break, we have some time to reflect and prepare for the Donkeys of Verona and the fighting Fascistas if Lazio
Ieri,oggi,domani….

Must be the middle of exams for Eros. That combined with the International break must be the reason for the silence on this board.
That said, still busy times in Bari, what with the whole Tim Barton situation. My parents are still in Bari, and in my brief conversations with my pop, the people there seem to think they were taken for a bit of a ride by the Texan. That his only real passion in Puglia was getting in on some energy projects for JMJ.
Either way, the city seems to really be behind this team. And why not, I happen to think they could be on the way to something special. When your back line AND keeper are getting National attention, that is something to take notice of.
Alora, I look forward to our game next week at Chievo, it should be quite the test, as the Donkeys have started the season on fine form.
FORZA GALLETTI!!!
